Vintage 1960s Monet brooch featuring a flower design formed from fine pieces of flowing rope. This solid brooch is gold plated as were many of the Monet pieces, they were excellent makers of fine costume jewellery. On the underside of the brooch is the mark '© Monet', a mark with the copyright symbol indicates the piece is after 1955.
The piece has its original box.
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Monocraft was founded by Jay and Michael Chernow in 1929, where they capitalised on monogramming. They launched Monet in 1937 with jewellery designer Edmund Mario Granville from Cartier. Monet evolved into one of the leading costume jewellers and designers in the 1940's. Monet's classic designs were made in silver and gold tone metals with the addition of crystals. They were renowned for created a more comfortable clip-on earring appealing to women of the post-war era. Monet also produced jewellery for Yves Saint Laurent during the 1980's and it remains popular today.
